Verold publishes Icelandic fiction and non-fiction, translated fiction, biographies, illustrated books and children´s books. Verold is also a literary agency, for the time being mainly handling rights for Yrsa Sigurdardottir who’s books have now been sold around the globe. Verold is part of the publishing house Bjartur-Verold. Among foreign authors published by Verold are Günter Grass, John Grisham and John Boyne. Founded in 2005 by Olafur Ragnarsson and Petur Mar Olafsson, Verold is a new publishing house with a long history. Starting in publishing in 1981, Olafur Ragnarsson established Vaka-Helgafell and in 1991 Petur Mar Olafsson joined him as a publishing director. Later Vaka-Helgafell merged with Mal og menning and became Edda Publishing. Ragnarsson was the first chairman of the board. In 2002 he left Edda and in 2004, Olafsson, then the group publishing director of the company, followed in his path. They established Verold Publishing in 2005. Ragnarsson retired from publishing in 2006 due to his health. He passed away on March 27, 2008. Previously, Petur Mar Olafsson has published Icelandic authors like Arnaldur Indridason, Halldor Laxness and Olaf Olafsson, and among international authors are Roddy Doyle, Cees Nooteboom, Jose Saramago, Amy Tan, Marianne Fredriksson and Minette Walters. |
